Instructions to travel from Schiphol Airport to Hotel Zuiderduin, Egmond aan Zee
We advise to travel from Schiphol Airport to Hotel Zuiderduin in Egmond aan Zee with public transport.

Buying a train ticket

To buy a train ticket from Schiphol Airport to Alkmaar, there are three possibilities:

1. buy a one way ticket (which is in fact an electronic card) from a ticket machine (10.30 EUR). There are two types of machines, use the one that is shown on the left in the picture with the convex shape. At the machine, toggle to English at the start screen, select ‘Buy a separate ticket’, then ‘One way ticket’. From there you can select Alkmaar as destination. You can pay with credit card (MC or Visa, 0.50 Eur surcharge) and with coins (no bills).

2. buy a one way ticket (which is in fact an electronic card) at Schiphol Airport at the NS ticket counter in the main hall (10.30 Eur). Here you can pay with cash and credit cards (MC or Visa). Note that there may be long queues, so the ticket machines are probably a better option. With this electronic one-way ticket card, check in at the yellow-grey check-in poles located in front of the stairs/escalators down to the platforms, by holding the card against the pole. The pole will give a single bleeping sound (multiple bleeps means your card was not accepted). Be sure to do this, otherwise you’re travelling in the train illegally and you’re subject to a fine, don’t expect any mercy from the train personnel when they check tickets. In Alkmaar, check out at the tourniquets by holding the card against the reader.

3. buy an online ticket at www.ns.nl, and print out yourself beforehand (9.30 Eur). This can only be paid with iDeal, unfortunately, not with credit card. You will need to show your ID (passport, ID card) when checked on the train. These tickets can be bought one month in advance. With an online ticket, be sure to keep your ticket until Alkmaar because you need it to get past the tourniquets at Alkmaar station by scanning the barcode at the reader.

Getting on the train

The train platforms at Schiphol Airport are located one level below the main hall. From Schiphol Airport, take a train to Amsterdam Sloterdijk. This part of the journey takes 11 minutes. Two possibilities:
-the Intercity train in the direction of Lelystad Centrum, which leaves 14 and 44 minutes past the hour from platform 3.
-the Sprinter train in the direction of Amersfoort Vathorst, which leaves at 29 and 59 minutes past the hour from platform 3.
